We are thrilled to share that long-time Mission Grammar teacher champion, Mr. Mikey Morris, will be running the Boston Marathon on April 15 in support of the brilliant scholars of Mission Grammar School!
Mr. Morris’ love for running began in elementary school. He ran road races in Brockton, and set the school record for the mile when he was in fifth grade. As he progressed through middle school, his talent for running was undeniable, and he began training with the high school squad. At Stoughton High School, Mr. Morris ran track and field and cross-country all four years. He was named MVP and league all-star, and decided he wanted to pursue running on the collegiate level.
The opportunity to compete on Emmanuel College’s teams was one of the main reasons Mr. Morris selected Emmanuel. While pursuing his undergraduate degree in education, Mr. Morris ran on the College’s cross country and track teams for four consecutive years. He was captain of the cross country team during his junior and senior years, was recognized as GNAC Rookie of the Week, earned the title of MVP during his senior year, and in 2013 was part of the first mens team to win the GNAC conference championship. Since then, Mr. Morris has completed two half marathons.
Mr. Morris’ career as an educator has been built at Mission Grammar. He completed his student teaching at MG and took on a full-time role immediately after graduating. After a two year hiatus spent doing service work in New Orleans, Mr. Morris returned to Mission to teach upper school math, and then moved into his current role as 2nd grade teacher. During his tenure at MG, he completed his masters degree at – you guessed it – Emmanuel College! He is one of Mission’s most active teacher champions, serving as a member of the MDAT Committee (Mission Grammar Diversity Action Team) and as co-coach of Mission’s Girls on the Run track team.
Mr. Morris possesses an unwavering commitment to Mission Grammar both in and out of the classroom. We cannot wait to cheer him on as he runs 26.2 on behalf of our amazing scholars. Let’s go, Mr. Morris!
